#31 Lakes with Sue

June 14, 2025 Filed Under: 60 walks with 60 friends

9-12 May 2025

Sue had proposed 3 days of the Lakes, Meres and Waters walk. We had already cancelled our planned trip in 2024 due to my pelvic pain, and a few days before this trip, I realised that my Achilles probably wasn’t up for walking with a pack over demanding terrain. Very disappointing – but the hope is to do the walk when I am able.

I am really glad we decided not to fully cancel the trip, however. We camped at Loughrigg Tarn campsite under clear blue skies with hot sunny days and cool nights. The stars of the trip were 2 Great Crested Grebes building their nest out of lily pads not far from the bank, mating and dancing together. What a treat! We swam in Loughrigg Tarn, Grasmere, Rydal Water, Elterwater and Tarn Howes and I managed longer walks than I had initially thought might be possible. It was lovely to be able to be out in the hills again and to spend time with Sue.

So maybe walk #31 will be replaced by the longer version in due time!
