Hilery lives in Stockbridge Colonies and we walked from her house along the Water of Leith to the Gallery of Modern Art and a welcome coffee and date slice! My achilles has been playing up a bit, so I welcomed the mostly flat, shortish walk and the wide-ranging chat.
I think we first met when Hilery and her daughter Thea moved into a flat next to ours on Portobello High Street – we had a Quaker connection – and more recently our connection has been through Protest in Harmony. Hilery had the honour of being our chair through the pandemic.
I was delighted to spot 2 Dippers on a stone in ther river, and the first pussy willows of spring. The scent of wild garlic was everywhere (but a bit too doggy to pick!). I wish I had brought my camera to really capture the signs of spring (phone camera is not great)
We chatted about writing, books, elderly parents, grief and politics and much more. A delightful morning.
