#23 Pettycur Bay with Helen

February 1, 2025 Filed Under: 60 walks with 60 friends

23rd December 2024

Helen is a swimming friend, but having plunged into the sea in Portobello at sunrise on 21st Dec for a solstice swim we decided not to bring our swimmers today!

The cliffs arond St. Abb’s are always stunning, but today the stars of the show were the baby seals. My friend and work colleague, Jenny, had enthused about the seal pups on the beaches round this coastline every December, and I had wondered if we were too late – so was delighted to see so many of them. The areas where they are sleeping and gathering strength to take to the sea on their own, are fenced off to avoid disturbing them. We were mesmorised!
