I have wanted to visit Carrifran for years – Myrtle Ashmole (one of the founders) was going to show us around many years ago, but it never quite happened – so I jumped at the chance to go for a walk round the area with Sandra.
Sandra asked me if I wanted to go on a shorter low level walk or a higher level horsehoe that would take about 6 hours – I opted for the latter. We have worked togther for over 5 years but never walked together before – I hadn’t counted on quite how fast she walked! We had a fabulous day of blue skies, big hills, great chat and were full of the delight of a good walk. An exceptionally steep descent through neck high bracken didn’t defeat us! The bracken did mean that, depite scaling some impressive stone walls, we couldn’t come back through the Carrifran Wildwood itself – I’ll save that for another day.
