I know Christine through climate activism and radical singing and in the run up to COP 26 when we worked together on the steering group of Stitches for Survival. She often talked about ‘her tree’ where she sat to soak up some nature up on Corstorphine Hill and today I was finally introduced! The tree is indeed very fine with spectacular views across the city to the Pentlands, and the branches are the prefct height to perch on. Some Long Tailed Tits came to say hello. A little further round there is another tree with bird feeders on. Christine filled them up and we sat watching Blue Tits, Great Tits and Coal Tits as we ate some flapjack.
We then walked down to the Roseburn Cycle Path, currently under threat as a bike route by a proposal to run trams along it – you can sign the petition here. We continued along the Water of Leith, through Saughton Park where Christine introduced me to the beautiful ‘Dreamer of Peace’ statue based on the poem by Sri Chinmoy, and then back to Corstorphine along another old railway path.
O dreamers of peace, come
Let us walk togther.
O lovers of peace, come,
Let us run togther.
O servers of peace, come,
Let us grow together.
