May We Too Rise

June 14, 2020 Filed Under: Making, Poems in Lockdown, Poetry

3/5/20

The epidemic always passes,
And this too shall pass

And we will shout from door to door
And hug with arms longer than before,
Like bears that lift you off the floor,
And we will sing and we will roar,
Until our throats are gladly sore,
Still laughing for more

And as we honour all who died,
And streams of tears pour
From screen-tired eyes,
May we too rise,
Wiser than before.

May we know that greed will never feed the world,
May we love plant and tree and bird,
May we truly care for those who care,
And act with hope and heart,
In this new and gentle start
