Newfield Spring Wood is an ancient woodland on the outskirts of Sheffield, now run as a community woodland. I have been wanting to visit the woodland for a good few years and was delighted when Heather offered to take me on a guided walk there as part of my 60 walks. We visisted on a crisp December morning; stepped inside the majestic Holly cathedral and learnt how Holly can dominate a wood if left unchecked; saw badger setts, a barn owl and stared up in awe at the tall trees, now winter skeletons against the sky.
