#11 Criffel Hill with Aniai

March 3, 2024 Filed Under: 60 walks with 60 friends

Sunday 25th February with Aniai, Chris, Bogdan and Guillaume.
I met Aniai on a retreat on Holy Isle last October and she she invited us to walk up Criffel with her – a landmark hill near Dumfries where she lives. It was a misty day and we had feelting glimpses of the view from the top over the Solway Firth and South to England. Chris treated us to jaffa cake jelly ears at the top (jelly ear fungi soaked in orange and dipped in chocolate) which particulary excited Bogdan, Aniai’s husband, who is particularly interested in all types of fungi! We drank from the mountain stream which Aniai said she liked to imagine as the blood vessels of the hill – that it is a living being.

It was good to be able to climb a hill again after my post covid fatigue last month. After coming down off the hill Chris and I went for an icy swim in Loch Arthur – brrr!
